THE year at Tatteralls Ireland came to a quiet close  with the one-day November Breeders Flat Sale which was headed by a €25,000 colt from the first crop of Papal Bull.

It was predictably tough going throughout the day as evidenced by a clearance rate of 34 per cent but the final figures did step forward from last year and marked a return to the 2008 totals taken at this auction.

The aggregate of €242,800 was up by 73 per cent. The median increased from €1,300 to €1,600 and the average was up by over two thirds from €2,344 to €4,155.

The top lot was the first foal to come under the hammer by the dual Group 2 winner and King George runner-up Papal Bull. From Bishopstown Stud, he eventually fell to the BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe after he got the better of Bobby O'Ryan for the relation to the Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire.
