Champion jockey turns bloodstock agent

CHAMPION jockey Ryan Moore - representing his father Gary - bid the top price of 65,000gns for First Avenue, a Warwick handicap winner for owner Michael Tabor and trainer Michael Jarvis last month, on the last day of the Tattersalls breeding-stock sale.

"Dad had other things to do today so asked me to come up and bid for this horse," said Moore. "I think he’ll be going hurdling and he’s shown a liking for soft ground. I’m not sure if Dad has an owner for him."

Gloucestershire agent Geoffrey Howson struck towards the close of play to get the day’s dearest mare, the 2006 Queen Mary Stakes fourth Sparkling Eyes, who realised 16,500gns when sold in foal to Piccolo from Ewar Stud Farms.

The four-year-old was bought on behalf of Robin and Scarlett Knipe’s Cobhall Court Farm in Herefordshire.
