Tatts Craven Breeze-up catalogue released

HALF-siblings to 91 Group or Listed performers are among the 183 lots catalogued to the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale on April 17 - 19.

The catalogue is marginally smaller than last year's 196-strong renewal, when 112 of 164 two-year-olds offered were sold for a total of 7,987,000gns. The average dropped by 11 per cent to 71,313gns while the median fell by 14 per cent to 60,000gns.

A Distorted Humor colt, subsequently named Tales Of Grimm and an impressive winner at Newbury, topped the sale when selling for 320,000gns to Sir Robert Ogden. However, it was Caspar Netscher, a relatively inexpensive 65,000gns purchase by Tom Malone and Alan McCabe, who did most to promote the sale, winning the Gimcrack and Mill Reef Stakes in the months following his sale.

The largest consignment comes from Willie Browne's Mocklershill Stables, which has 22 two-year-olds catalogued including a Montjeu three-parts brother to Lancashire Oaks heroine Pongee (70) and a Henrythenavigator half-brother to Grade 1 winner Eddington (175).

A Smart Strike colt out of Grade 1 winner Keeper Hill (14) and the half-siblings to Group/Grade 1 winners Yonaguska (34; by Giant's Causeway), Sahpresa (96; by Country Be Gold), and Harlan's Holiday (155; by Henrythenavigator) also take the eye.

More than 60 per cent of the two-year-olds catalogued are eligible for the Racing Post Yearling Bonus Scheme and there are also two lots eligible for the £1,300,000 Tattersalls Millions series and a further two for the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes.

"The Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale has stamped itself as Europe's premier breeze-up sale and the results on the racecourse bear this out," said Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls.

"There have been no fewer than six individual Group 1-winning Tattersalls breeze-up graduates over the last three years and those flying the flag last year included the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner Margot Did, Dubawi Gold, runner-up in the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas, and the two-time Group 2 winning two-year-old Caspar Netscher.

"The catalogue for this year's renewal looks full of quality and looks certain to appeal to buyers from throughout the world and at all levels of the market."

The breeze will take place at Newmarket's Rowley Mile racecourse on Tuesday April 17 from 9am. Videos of the breezes will be available on the Tattersalls website.

The sale commences at 6pm on Wednesday April 18 and concludes on ThursdayApril 19. For the first time, the sale has been catalogued alphabetically by dam's name.
