Azamour filly lights up steady day of Book 2

A LIVELIER, but still selective, second session at Book 2 of Tattersalls' October Sale on Tuesday saw a healthy spread of buyers wanting to own a six-figure yearling, among them Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

But Ecclestone, who bought a 200,000gns Excellent Art colt in partnership with John Humphreys, did not quite top the day's trading. That accolade fell to owner Andrew Tinkler, who collected a 240,000gns choicely-bred Azamour filly from the Reprocolor family.

Sold, like last week's 1.2 million gns sale-topper, by Seamus Burns' Lodge Park Stud, she was bought for Tinkler as long-term breeding prospect by agent Dwayne Woods.

"For me she was the star filly in the sale and the only one we bid for. Conformationally she was a stunner and she should make a two-year-old while having the scope to be better at three. She is also from one of the great Meon Valley Stud families," said Woods, who added that no decision on a trainer had been taken.

The clearance rate picked up to 77 per cent, from 70 per cent on Monday (although down from 84 per cent on the daylast year),while the 26,500gns median rose by 6 per cent and the 36,540gns average was up 3 per cent. The 7.308 million gns aggregate fell by 1 per cent.
