Tapizar to stand at Gainesway Farm

TAPIZAR, impressive winner of this year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, will stand alongside his sire Tapit at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky next season.

The four-year-old, bred and owned by the Winchell family, has had a fruitful campaign this year, with victories coming in the West Virginia Governor's Stakes, an impressive win in the Grade 2 San Fernando Stakes at Santa Anita before a pillar to post success in the Grade 1 Dirt Mile.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Tapizar is the third individual Group/Grade 1 winner this season for Tapit, following the February Stakes winner Testa Matta and dual US Grade 1 winner Tapitsfly. Gainesway Farm's flagbearer has sired nine top level winners and the exploits of Hansen and dual Grade 1 winner Zazu in 2011 saw the son of Pulpit's stud fee hit a career high of $125,000 in 2012, a $45,000 rise from 2011.

Tapizar is from a family which has been in the Winchell family hands for three generations. This direct family includes Grade 1 winner Paddy O'Prado, Grade 1 winner and sire Olympio, and Grade 1 winner Pyro, each of whom was bred and/or raced by the Winchells. His dam is out of a sister to Grade 1 Hollywood Derby hero Olympio and descends from the family of Forgeo Stakes winner Pyro.

Gainesway President Antony Beck said: "We have been looking for the best son of Tapit to stand at Gainesway ever since it became apparent what an exceptional stallion he is. Tapizar certainly fits the bill and he's the third stallion that we are standing for my good friend Ron Winchell."
