The top lot: a colt by Harlan's Holiday out of Acrosstheborder

Harlan's Holiday colt in demand at Fasig-Tipton

THE Fasig-Tipton July Sale of yearlings was headed by a Harlan's Holiday colt, sold for $310,000 to John Moynihan on behalf of Stonerstreet Stable and George Bolton. Offered by Crossroads Sales, he is the first foal of the stakes-placed Acrosstheborder, a daughter of Include.

"He's a really pretty horse by a good stallion," said Moynihan. "He is a beautiful mover. The price was a little high but right in line. The real good ones are bringing $200,000 plus."

He was closely followed by a Tapit filly, offered by Gainesway and knocked down to Winchell Thoroughbreds. She is a fourth foal and half-sister to two runners and a winner in Vicarious Moon. Her dam, Easily, is a half-sister to Kentucky Oaks third Til Forbid and to three other black-type winners.

Harlan's Holiday was also sire of the fourth-top lot, a colt out of the Grade 3-winning Dixieland Band mare Shiny Band, sold to EQB Inc for $225,000.

The aggregate of $13,349,000 was down 28 per cent on last year, the $69,890 average fell eight per cent, but the median increased by $10,000 to $60,000 (up 20 per cent). Last year's larger sale was split over two days and saw 243 horses change hands compared to this year's 191.
