TAPITSFLY (5 gr m Tapit - Flying Marlin by Marlin)

Bred by Frank Jones

TAPITSFLY flew late to wear down Bay To Bay in the Honey Fox Stakes and become the fifth stakes winner of 2012 for Gainesway Farm's marquee stallion Tapit.

Dale Romans' five-year-old mare, winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf when it was an ungraded event in 2009, is the 17th Graded stakes winner by Tapit, who sired his seventh Grade 1 winner in February when Testa Matta won the February Stakes at Tokyo in Japan. The son of Pulpit it also the sire of last year's champion juvenile Hansen, the recent winner of the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes.

Tapit stands at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky for $125,000.

Bred by owner Frank Jones, Tapitsfly is the best foal out of Flying Marlin, a multiple winner of $146,051. Further back, it is the family of Grade 1-placed Malli Star.

With Tapit's progeny generally most effective on dirt, Tapitsfly has more than likely inherited her liking for turf from her damsire, Michael Tabor's 1997 Arlington Million winner Marlin. Theson of Sword Dancer sired Brian Meehan's German Group 1 winner Kaieteur during his spell in Kentucky.
