Gio Ponti: Has been retired to Castleton Lyons and will stand at $20,000

Gio Ponti retired to Castleton Lyons

GIO PONTI, the winner of seven Grade 1 races in America has been retired and will stand at Castleton Lyons Farm in Kentucky next year.

Gio Ponti's last Grade 1 success came back in October, when he won the Shadwell Turf  Mile Stakes for trainer Christophe Clement at Keeneland. He had previously been beaten by Cape Blanco in the Man O'War Stakes and Arlington Million.

Gio Ponti, a son of Tale Of The Cat, will stand at a fee of $20,000 (November 1st terms). Shane Ryan, president of Castleton Lyons said: "We are delighted to welcome Gio Ponti back home to the farm where he was bred and raised. The horse has had an amazing racing career with seven Grade 1 wins, three Eclipse Awards and in the money 23 out of 29 lifetime starts. We will be strongly supporting Gio Ponti with our best mares as we endeavour to give him every opportunity to succeed as a stallion."

Gio Ponti, is out of the dual-winning Alydar mare, Chipeta Springs and is a half-brother to seven winners, most notably the Listed-winning pair of Bon Jovi Girl and Fisher Pond who were both successful in America.
