Oratorio: his Takar was an exciting winner at Leopardstown today

Dreaming of the future for Oratorio's winner

IT might be the very last day of the Flat turf season in Ireland, but that did not stop Coolmore's Oratorio from producing an exciting winner in the second division of the maiden at Leopardstown.

The success of Takar, in what looked a decent maiden, has given connections, trainer John Oxx and owner The Aga Khan, reason to dream of exciting times in 2012.

The victory was not a surprise - the colt was sent off the 11/4f - but the manner of it was as Takar literally "bolted up."

After looking the likely winner throughout, he found plenty when hitting the front and produced a performance that entitles his connections to dream of Group glory next season.

Post-race Oxx was wary of predicting a Guineas campaign, but he was certainly not ruling it out. Takar handled today's ground well and is a really powerful traveller in his races.

Takar is a half-brother to several winners, including the Group 2 middle-distance winner Takali. His dam Takarouna won over 1m2f winner and is sister to Dante winner Torjoun.

Oratorio has had one Group 1 winner in the northern hemisphere - Beethoven, winner of the Dewhurst Stakes - while his only other Group winners in the northern hemisphere are Lolly For Dolly, who won the Windsor Forest Stakes, the Gladness Stakes, the Park Express Stakes and the Athasi Stakes, and King Torus, winner of the Superlative Stakes and the Vintage Stakes in 2010.

Oxx later doubled up with the King's Best colt Call To Battle in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes for juveniles.

The colt has now won twice from two starts and is expected to make up into a stayer next year. There are hopes that he might make up intoa top-class  "Leger type" - he is related to the winner of the Doncaster Classic in 2000, the John Dunlop-trained Millenary.
