Swettenham sire Host off the mark in Australia
SWETTENHAM Stud stallion Host became the latest Australian first-season sire to get off the mark when daughter Flying Hostess broke her maiden at Ballarat on Thursday.
Sent off favourite, Flying Hostess captured the 5f event by three-quarters of a length.
She is out of the Commands mare Ardent Command, also the dam of Thursday's Wyong winner Just Another (by Reset), and was a A$25,000 purchase by her trainer Darren Weir at the 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Host was a top-class performer in his native Chile, winning the Group 1 Hipodromo Clasicos Dos Mil Guineas before transferring to the US where he was successful in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile. The ten-time winning son of Hussonet stood the past southern hemisphere season at Swettenham Farm in Australia for A$9,000.
