Sweet success for sire Kodiac in Listed race

FIRST-SEASON sire Kodiac recorded his third Listed winner when Sweet Cecily, who cost just €3,000 as a foal, took the European Breeders' Fund Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

Previously second at Listed-level in the Bathwick Tyres St Hugh's Stakes at Newbury, Sweet Cecily is the second foal and first runner out of Yaqootah, a 5f winner at three from six starts achieving a handicap mark of 75.

The bargain purchase was made at the Goffs November foal sale, when Sweet Cecily, who is trained by Richard Hannon for Julie Wood, was knocked down to Bath Bloodstock.

Yaqootah is out of Sweet Roberta, a top-class juvenile in the US who was runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Kodiac's previous Listed winners are Bathwick Bear, who won the Ripon Champion 2yo Trophy, and Ileny Princess, a Listed winner at San Siro, Milan. The Tally-Ho Stud resident stood this season for €4,000 per cover.
