Ice Box: dam of the Kentucky Derby runner-up, Spice Island, is catalogued to the Keeneland January Sale

Strong line-up for Keeneland January Sale

EUROPEAN Group 1 winners Mrs Lindsay and Rajeem head the 1,594 horses catalogued to the 2012 Keeneland January Sale on January 9 - 12.

The four day sale is 13 per cent smaller than last year's renewal and has been split into just two books, compared to three in 2011.

Prix Vermeille heroine Mrs Lindsay will be sold in foal to Invincible Spirit by Eaton Sales alongside her dam, Vole Vole Monamour, who is in foal to Pulpit.

Rajeem, who sprung a 50/1 shock when successful in the 2006 Falmouth Stakes for Clive Brittain, will be offered by Hidden Brook Farm in foal to Medaglia d'Oro.

Other lots of note include St Trinians, a Grade 2-winning British-bred daughter of Piccolo who came within half a length of Zenyatta when second in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap, and Singapore Lilly, a Group 1-placed juvenile for Mick Channon who was at the centre of a dispute over an unpaid debt between Californian owner Jeffrey de Haven and Tattersalls.

A highlight from the Hunter Valley Farm draft is Tashzara, an Intikhab half-sister to leading miler Excelebration.

Among the proven producers catalogued is Spice Island, dam of last year's Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box, and Star Of Goshen, dam of Grade 1 winner and young Vinery stallion Pioneer Ofthenile.

Last year's sale saw 998 of 1,373 horses offered sell for a total of $24,877,350 and average of $24,957.

Grade 1 winner Ave topped the sale when selling out of the Three Chimneys Sales consignment for $1.4 million to Shadai Farm.
