Joe Lively strikes
for Flemensfirth

Saturday; Cheltenham: Letheby & Christopher Chase (Grade 2) 3m1f

Joe Lively (Flemensfirth - Forest Gale by Strong Gale)

DESPITE blundering at the second last, Joe Lively refused to be denied in the Letheby and Christopher Chase, showing an admirable attitude to wear down Halcon Genelardais to score by nearly three lengths.

Joe Lively was the second winner on the Cheltenham card following Diamond Harry to be bred on the Alleged - Strong Gale cross.

Like the third home, Tidal Bay, Joe Lively is a son of Flemensfirth, who is enjoying another strong season thanks to Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander and the Grade 2 Monkfield Novice Hurdle winner Pandorama.

Consequently, the Coolmore-based son of Alleged is only behind Presenting and Old Vic in third place on the leading jumps sires' list.

Bred by John O'Callaghan in Ireland, Joe Lively is out of the unraced Strong Gale mare Forest Gale and a half-brother to four winners including Forest Fountain (Royal Fountain), a multiple winner over fences, and Sir Galeforce (Mister Lord), a multiple winner over hurdles.

Forest Gale has a two-year-old filly by Misternando.
