Strong climax to Inglis Melbourne select session

A STRONG third day of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale on Wednesday brought the aggregate to the second highest for the three-day select section in the sale's history, with receipts of A$30,295,500 (£18,848,456/€22,226,608).

Day three's top price, also the highest for the sale, was A£340,000 (£211,554/€249,466, A$400,000 last year), with the average for the three days A$71,961 (£44,773/€52,794, up one per cent), and the median A$58,000 (£36,089/€42,555, up five per cent).

A total of 513 yearlings were offered during the select session, with 421 sold for a clearance rate of 82 per cent.

Two grandsons of Danehill jointly topped the trading, a Fastnet Rock colt and a son of Redoute's Choice. The Fastnet Rock is out of Group 2 winner Coupe, by Spinning World, from the family of Group 1 winner Coup De Grace and champion mare Spirit Of Kingston.

He was offered by Burnewang North Pastoral and purchased by James Kingston. Fastnet Rock has had an excellent sale, siring six of the top nine lots so far.

The Redoute's Choice colt was consigned by Grange Thoroughbreds and bought by Paul Moroney. He is a brother to Listed winner Sharkbite out of Back Pass, a half-sister to Coventry Stakes winner and Dewhurst second Three Valleys, whose dam is half-sister to Juddmonte's superb producer Hasili.

Inglis director Peter Heagney said: "It's always nice have an improved gross figure, but from the point of view of vendors and of greater importance in my opinion, is that the average and median are both up and I think the sale has achieved a fantastic result in this regard.

"The median reflects the overall strength of the sale and to see it better last year's mark is a wonderful result, particularly as other sales this year have been down on those indicators.

"This reflects very favourably on the graduates we have flyingthe flag for this sale - both in Australia and abroad - and the quality of horses that our vendors continue to bring to Oaklands."

Thursday's general session concludes the sale.
