Dam of Court Vision
and Kipling dead

WEEKEND Storm, dam of last season's Grade 1 Hollywood Derby winner Court Vision and promising Kentucky-based stallion Kipling, died on February 12 after foaling a colt by Gulch at Lane's End Farm. She was 17-years-old.

By Storm Bird out of 1992 US Broodmare of the Year Weekend Surprise, Weekend Storm was a sister to Preakness Stakes winner and Classic-producing sire Summer Squall.

She was also a half-sister to three other stakes winners including US Horse of the Year and champion sire A P Indy.

Despite her illustrious connections, Weekend Storm never made itto the track. However, she more than made up for it at stud by breeding nine winners including five stakes performers.

Weekend Storm was most successful when crossed with Lane's End resident Gulch, to whom she bred Grade 1 winner Court Vision and Hong Kong Group 2 winner Garcia Marquez.

Gulch is also the sire of the mare's minor winner Kipling, who now stands at Crestwood Farm in Kentucky after siring multiple Grade 1 winner Kip Deville in his second crop which wasconceived in Oklahoma.

Weekend Storm has a two-year-old colt by City Zip called Hailstone.
