Stay Thirsty to stand at Coolmore's Ashford Stud

STAY THIRSTY, who finished a head second to Flat Out in Saturday's Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park, will begin his stallion career at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky next year.

Stay Thirsty, who is slated to have one more race at four this year, is trained by Todd Pletcher for Mike Repole, the same team behind this year's Ashford Stud recruit Uncle Mo.

Repole has retained a minority interest in Stay Thirsty and plans to send the stallion six of his mares next year.

A son of exciting sire Bernardini, Stay Thirsty was runner-up in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at two and peaked at three, when he won the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes and Grade 1 Travers Stakes.

Stay Thirsty has won four of his 16 starts and has hit the board in five other races. His earnings stand at $1,726,000.

He is out of the Storm Bird mare Marozia, who won a Lingfield 1m4f handicap for John Gosden and Sheikh Mohammed.

The dam has also produced Grade 3 winner Andromeda's Hero and Grade 1-placed Superfly.
