COOLMORE'S top sprinter Starspangledbanner has run his last race and will join the Coolmore Stud roster for the 2011 season.

The four-year-old Australian-bred retires a four-time Group 1 winner, having scored twice at the top levelin his native country as a three-year-old before landing the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket this year.

The chestnut, whose sire Choisir also won a Group 1 in Australia before coming over to England to take the Golden Jubilee, was trained by Leon Corstens for his southern hemisphere career before Coolmore secured a 95 per cent stake in him for a reported A$10.25 million.

He was later transferred to Aidan O'Brien for whom he made his debut in the Duke Of York Stakes in May. His Australian Group 1 wins came in the Caulfield Guineas over a mile and the Oakleigh Plate Handicap over 5 1/2f.

Coolmore's Eddie Fitzpatrick said: "Starspangledbanner is a very imposing individual with a strong page and is rated a superior sprinter to his sire Choisir. He showed that brilliant speed in both the Golden Jubilee and the July Cup."

O'Brien commented: "Starspangledbanner is an incredible horse - the fastest we've ever had here. It was a great pleasure to have him."
