Stars colt takes centre stage at JRHA Sale

A SEA The Stars half-brother to top miler Mastercraftsman is likely to be one of the star attractions of the opening session of the JRHA July Select Sale at the Northern Horse Park in Japan on Monday. Selling for the two-day sale gets underway at 10am (local time).

The colt, who is out of the Black Tie Affair mare Starlight Dreams and also a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Genuine Devotion and the Group 1-placed Famous, will be the first yearling from the first crop of his sire to be offered worldwide at public auction. He is consigned by Harry Sweeney's Paca Paca Farm.

The first progeny of champion Sea The Stars were in incredible demand last year with 13 foals selling for an average of 324,086gns.

The colt will be one of 250 yearlings offered during the first session of the sale. Other highlights include a half-sister to recent Group 1 Victoria Mile heroine Whale Capture, who is from the first crop of Sir Michael Stoute's dual Breeders' Cup Turf and King George hero Conduit, and a Zenno Rob Roy colt out of American Horse of the Year Azeri.

Outstanding young sire Deep Impact, the sire of this year's Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Beauty Parlour, is represented by 14 yearlings including a filly out of James Given's Sun Chariot Stakes runner-up Summitville.

Deep Impact dominated last year's sale, with a daughter of the stallion and Japanese Oaks heroine Air Groove smashing the sale record for a yearling when selling out of Northern Farm's consignment to Nobutaka Tada's Global Equine Management Ltd for JPY360 million (£2,791,309/ €3,144,643).

She was the dearest yearling filly sold worldwide in 2011.

Another 226 foals, including those from the first crop of runaway King George winner Harbinger, have been catalogued to sell on Tuesday.
