Starcraft sires Aussie Group 1 winner
STARCRAFT has sired his first Group 1 winner courtesy of his son Star Witness, from the stallion's initial Australian crop.
Star Witness has won all of his three starts to date, and his hugely impressive win in the A$1 million Blue Diamond Stakes over 6f makes hima very exciting prospect for next year.
He was bought by his trainer Danny O'Brien for A$150,000 (£83,333/€94,167) at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year, and has already earned A$717,200 (£398,444/€450,242).
O'Brien said: "It's very exciting - not much went right for him. He wobbled on the corner and was virtually last when they straightened. I've got a lot of confidence in this colt. He does things thatonly top class horses can do.
"I think he's better than just the average two-year-old who can win the Blue Diamond. Hopefully we've got a very exciting horse to race on next year. He's well above average. I think he's a colt witha huge future.
"If he runs again it will be in the VRC Sires' Produce and then he'll be going to the paddock and looking forward to the spring.
"We've had a lot of success with the family. His dam's full brother Ferocity won the Ascot Vale Stakes and this bloke looks like being the best of the lot."
The result was a great advertisement for its sponsor, Arrowfield Stud, where Starcraft stands as does Redoute's Choice who sired the second and third-placed horses.
