Relation to Trafford Lad heads Ascot trading

SIX-year-old mare Star Shuil, who was unplaced in two bumpers for trainer David Arbuthnot, topped Ascot's February Sale today when selling for £14,500.

Bobby McCarthy, owner of The Beeches Stud in County Waterford, put in the successful bid for George Ward's blue-blooded home-bred.

The Soviet Star mare is a daughter of Stayers' Hurdle winner Suil Ar Aghaidh and shares her grandam with Grade 1 novice hurdle winner Trafford Lad.

Meanwhile, trainer Alison Thorpe paid £11,000 for Romanesco, winner of a Fairyhouse beginners' chase in November for trainer Henry de Bromhead and owners Alan and Ann Potts.
