Square Eddie in training after season at stud

SQUARE Eddie, who landed an American Grade 1 event as a two-year-old for Kent-based John Best, is back in training in California after covering 40 mares at stud this year.

According to the Blood-Horse, ownerPaul Reddam's son of Smart Strike is back in trainer Doug O'Neill's barn ready for a return to the track.

Square Eddie was initially retired early this year after some swelling was found in an ankle and stood the breeding season for aprivate fee at Vessels Stallion Station near Bonsall, California.

"After he was done breeding, we checked his legs and they were cold and tight," O'Neill told the Blood-Horse.

Square Eddie won the Grade 1Lane's End Breeders' Futurity on the Keeneland Polytrack two years ago before finishing a fine second to Midshipman in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
