Big Aintree double for French stallion Network

FRENCH National Stud stallion Network enjoyed a big-race double at Aintree on Saturday, with one son, Sprinter Sacre, gaining a bloodless success in the Grade 1 Maghull Novices' Chase, and another, Saint Are, landing the Listed John Smith's Handicap Chase.

Network's winning pair contrbuted to a day that paid tribute to French National Stud stallions, as a former member, the late Dom Alco, provided the Grand National hero Neptune Collonges.

Sprinter Sacre, who is now undefeated this season in five starts including the Racing Post Arkle at Cheltenham last month, was bred in France by Christophe Masle.

He is out of the Bayolidaan mare Fatima III, making him a half-brother to three winners. None of his recent family members have reached the heights he has, and he is the only black-type performer under his first three dams.

Saint Are, who won last year's Grade 1 Sefton Novices' Hurdle at the Aintree Grand National meeting, was bred by Jacques Cypres out of the Video Rock mare Fortanea, a multiple AQPS winner on the Flat, over hurdles and over fences.

Network, a German-bred son of Monsun who won the Group 2 Union-Rennen over 1m3f, stands at the Haras National Cercy-la-Tour at a fee of €2,100 this year.

His other top performers include John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase winner Rubi Light, Auteuil Grade 1 winner Rubi Ball and exciting Auteuil Grade 3 winner Net Lovely.
