Goffs Sportsman's Sale: as it happens

Final figures

From 170 offered, 138 (81%) sold, for turnover of €2,372,700 (+17%), average of €17,193 (+30%) and median of €14,000 (+40%).

535 - Johnny Murtagh lands an imposing son of Arakan for €67,000.

Consigned by Milestream Stud, the colt is out of a half-sister to the Group 1-winning juvenile Wootton Basset and is a half-brother to the dual Listed winner Katla.

"Andy Geraghty [agent] has looked at the horses this week and this was his pick of this sale," said Murtagh. "All the good judges were on him and I hope he's lucky for Mr. Tinkler."

524 - Con Marnane adds to his breeze-up band when securing a Kilmoney Cottage Stud-consigned son of Thousand Words for €50,000.

A half-brother to the Italian Listed winner Apprimus, the colt descends from a family that includes the Group 1-winning pair Dar Re Mi and Rewilding.

Popular sire

Progeny by Derrinstown Stud's Intikhab are selling well, with three offered and three sold for an average price if €22,667. His 2010 fee was €5,500.

455 - Stephen Hillen, who bought seven lots during the two-day Orby Sale, is back in action parting with €75,000 for a Staffordstown-consigned son of Hernando.

The May-born colt is a half-brother to this season's Group 3 Sirenia Stakes winner Glass Office, a horse Hillen had bought at last year's Orby Sale for €60,000.

"This horse was a very good physical," said Hillen. "He's by an underrated sire and he was a good-looking, simple horse.

"I was getting quite close to my limit, but I've had good success with the family. He has been bought for an established client and will be heading back to the UK."

Lot 441 - James Kelly, Lady O'Reilly's racing manager, signs at €60,000 for a daughter of Raven's Pass.

Consigned by Lumville Farm, the filly is out of the winning Galileo mare Mowazana and is a half-sister to the three-year-old winner Crafty Roberto.

"Kevin Prendergast was very keen on the filly, but we hadn't expected to buy her today," said Kelly. "Kevin trained La Collina, who was out of a Galileo mare, so he was keen on this horse. He also knows the family well, having trained the Group 3 winner Moiqen."

Three lots later, the €60,000 mark was matched again when Norman Steel signed for a Shamardal filly (444).

The Oghill House Stud-consigned filly is out of a sister to the Italian Listed winner Mister Cavern and is a half-sister to the three-time winner Sisindu.

Lot 429 - BBA Ireland's Patrick Cooper parts with €42,000 for a Kiloney Cottage Stud-consigned daughter of Intikhab.

The filly is the first foal out of the unraced In The Wings mare Lunar Love, a half-sister to Listed-winning, Group 1-placed performer Falstaff.

"She is by a sire that we've had a lot of luck with," said Cooper. "She had a lovely walk to her and was very pretty. She will be trained by Jessica Harrington.

Trade has understandably stepped down a gear today, with a Ballybin Stud-consigned son of Dark Angel (405) heading proceedings after selling to Ross Doyle for €36,000.

The February-born colt is a half-brother to the dual 2m winner Mohanad, also a winner over hurdles, and is out of a half-sister to the four-time Group 3 winner Idris.
