Spirit River wins the Coral Cup Cheltenham 17.03.2010

Spirit River clears the last en route to Coral Cup victory

French-breds continue successful Festival run

SPIRIT River became the fourth French-bred and fourth horse descending from Sadler's Wells to score at this year's Cheltenham Festival when taking the Coral Cup.

The five-year-old is a son of Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Poliglote, who has made an impression under both codes thanks to Flat runners such as Irish Wells and HelloMorning and jumpers of the calibre of Lingo. The Haras d'Etreham stallion has also made his mark in the southern hemisphere as the sire of Argentine Oaks winner Kalath Wells.

Bred by Michel Bourgneuf and Alain Sagot, Spirit River is the only winner out of Love River. The mare is a daughter of 1990 Arc runner-up Epervier Bleu, who - like other successful 2010 Festival sires Pistolet Bleu and Discover d'Auteuil - was trained by Elie Lellouche, also the breeder of Champion Hurdle winner Binocular.
