Spendthrift's Tiz Wonderful off the mark

SPENDTHRIFT Farm freshman stallion Tiz Wonderful got off the mark on Thursday when his two-year-old daughter, Scammony, won the $57,000 maiden special weight over 5f at Churchill Downs.

The Tom Amoss-trained filly broke sharply and flashed good early speed while stalking the early pacesetters. She ranged up to the leaders in the stretch before going clear to win by a length for owners Gold Mark Farm LLC.

Purchased by Gold Mark for $85,000 at the Keeneland September sale, Scammony is the fifth winner out of the Pembroke mare Scammer. She was bred in Kentucky by Tim Hamlin.

The first Kentucky-based son of Tiznow to be represented by runners, Tiz Wonderful was an undefeated two-year-old, winning the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes.

He stands at B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky for $12,500.
