HAPPY ARCHER f. Dubawi - So Tempted (by Jeune)

Breeder: Racetree, Australia

YOUNG Darley sire Dubawi's growing reputation has a new international dimension, with his daughter Happy Archer on Saturday landing one of South Africa's most prestigious races for juvenile fillies, the Thekwini Stakes at Greyville.

Sean Tarry-trained Happy Archer was bred in Australia by Racetree and sold at the 2009 Magic Millions yearling sale for A$23,000 - around £13,000, or €16,000.

Among Dubawi's first crop of southern hemisphere-bred two-year-olds, she is the second foal out of the winning Jeune mare So Tempted, a sister to VRC Oaks third Lolita Star.

Dubawi got the European racing season off to a flying start when his first-crop son Makfi won the 2,000 Guineas and success continued flowing, with Worthadd scoring in the Derby Italiano and Monterosso winning the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

His second northern-hemisphere crop looks as though it could be as good as the first, having already yielded Empress Stakes winner Khor Sheed and last weekend's impressive Prix Robert Papin winner Irish Field.

Dubawi's Australia and New Zealand-bred first-crop juveniles also include Cellarmaster, a dual Group 1-runner-up in New Zealand, and Golden Millennium, who won a Listed contest in Australia.

Monterosso had given a clue that Dubawi would excel with Antipodean bloodlines, as he is out of the Australian-bred Barathea mare Porto Roca, winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill.

Dubawi left 80 foals from his first season at stud in Australia in 2006, missed the 2007 season due to the equine influenza outbreak, covered 95 mares in Australia in 2008, and returned last year. Darley has elected not to shuttle him down under for the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season.
