Sophomore sires still
on the crest of a wave
SILVER FROST colt Silverwave continued the purple patch being enjoyed by this year's sophomore sires when landing the 1m2f Group 3 Prix La Force - also becoming his sire's first stakes winner in the process.
The unbeaten three-year-old, trained by Alain Couetil, stayed on strongly to score by four lengths from the favourite Epicuris - who had been reluctant to load. He was one of two runners in the race carrying the silks of Hspirit - the second, Jules Et Jim, finished fifth.
Silverwave, who has entries in the Prix du Jockey Club and Grand Prix de Paris, has now won his four starts by a combined 16 lengths. He was bought by his trainer on behalf of Hspirit for €420,000 - a record price - at the Arqana Deauville Autumn Mixed Sale after failing to change hands for €60,000 at the company's October Yearling Sale.
Co-bred by Haras de Clairefontaine's Marie-Laure Collet, Silverwave is a three-parts brother to Prix Jean Prat winner Stormy River, whose sire Verglas is also responsible for Silver Frost. Silverwave's unraced dam Miss Bio, a River Mist half-sister to Grade 3 Miesque Stakes heroine Fantastic Filly, is the dam of seven winners from seven runners.
Silver Frost raced at two, three and four before retiring to stud at Haras de la Hetraie in France. The Yves de Nicolay-trained runner posted a career high when landing the Poule d'Essai des Poulains under Christophe Soumillon, adding to a pair of Group 3 juvenile wins and victory in the Prix de Faontainebleau.
He is standing the current season for a fee of €4,500.
