Son of Welsh Love
lights up Goffs

PAT O'Kelly's Kilcarn Stud has enjoyed plenty of good days at the Goffs Orby Sale in the past and Tuesday proved to be no different when her Montjeu colt out of Welsh Love was knocked down to John Magnier for €420,000.

Magnier had to fight off Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock for the colt, a half-brother to five stakes winners including Second Empire, who carried Michael Tabor's colours to victory in the 1997 Grand Criterium.

With 100 lots still to sell during the opening session, the average is running at €74,820 while a total of 17 yearlings have been broken the six figure barrier.

John Magnier has signed for three yearlings worth €725,000 while John Ferguson has struck for six yearlings worth €720,000 led by a son of Oasis Dream who cost €260,000.

Shadwell Estates has also been active with Sheikh Hamdan personally signing for a Medicean half-brother to Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Pennkenna Princess who cost €270,000.
