Wertheimer bloodlines to the fore in Prix Corrida
Prix Corrida (Group 2, 4yo+ fillies and mares),
4yo b f Poliglote - Brooklyn's Dance (Shirley Heights)
SOLEMIA just edged out last year's Arc runner-up Shareta, a daughter of Sinndar closely related to Irish Oaks winner Shawanda, to win the Prix Corrida on Monday.
The result was announced only after the stewards had taken a long study of the photograph. Siyouma, a Medicean half-sister to Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Siyouni, was third.
Solemia, who was registering a first Group victory having twice struck at Listed level, carries the silks of her breeders, the Wertheimer brothers, and she represents the family's bloodlines on both the top and bottom of her pedigree.
She is by Poliglote, a Wertheimer-bred son of Sadler's Wells who won the Criterium de Saint-Cloud at two and whose other top progeny include dual Grand Prix de Deauville winner Irish Wells and Criterium International runner-up Hello Morning.
Solemia is the last registered foal produced by the Wertheimers' brilliant broodmare Brooklyn's Dance, a daughter of Shirley Heights who won the Group 3 Prix Cleopatre in 1991.
Brooklyn's Dance has produced five other stakes winners: Brooklyn's Gold (Prix de Suresnes), Gold Dodger (Prix de Pepiniere), Never Green (Prix Occitanie), Prospect Park (La Coupe) and Prospect Wells (Prix Greffulhe).
Brooklyn's Dance is in turn a half-sister to Listed winner Princess Dansante, Funsie, the dam of Derby hero Authorized, and Quest Of Fire, the grand-dam of triple Group 1 winner Quijano.
Vallee Dansante, the dam of Brooklyn's Dance, was a half-sister to the Wertheimer family's Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Green Dancer, who found further fame as the sire of celebrities such as Cadoudal, Green Tune, Greinton and Suave Dancer.
This is also the family of Group 1 winners and sires Alhaarth and Makfi.
