Slickly narrowly denied Listed double at Nantes

SOKAR became the fourth individual stakes winner of the 2008 campaign for Slickly on Wednesday when taking the Listed Prix des Sablonnets at Nantes.

The colt is also the first stakes winner out of the winning Courtroom mare Mia Stella, the dam of four other winners including Septieme Etoile (Septieme Ciel), successful on nine occasions in France.

As well as being a half-sister to the French Listed winners Signoretto (Mille Balles) and Swift Arrow (King Of The Castle), Mia Stella is also from the immediate family of Prix du Jockey-Club hero Sicambre.

Mia Stella has a yearling filly by Diktat, who sold for €37,000 to Nicolas Madamet at the Arqana August Yearling Sale.

Slickly was narrowly denied a Listed double on the Nantes card when Stikine was beaten a length by Basaltico in the Prix de la Ville Nantes one race later.

The winner marks the third stakes winner for his sire Shantou and the third stakes performer from as many foals out of  Sfliza following Sfilzatore (Glen Jordan) and Sfillo (Tibullo).

The daughter of Indian Ridge is a half-sister to seven winners including Listed winner Misterioso (Forzando).

Sfilza has a yearling colt by Martino Alonso named Martilzo and a colt foal by Dubawi.
