Snow Fairy back on track after suffering reaction

ARC THIRD Snow Fairy is on course to contest the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup at Kyoto on Sunday despite suffering a "major reaction" while in quarantine last week.

The Ed Dunlop-trained four-year-old took the race last year under Ryan Moore but her bid for back-to-back victories was in doubt after she suffered bug bites at the quarantine centre in Shiroi.

However, Dunlop said on Tuesday that Snow Fairy has made good progress in her recovery.

"She spent eight days in Shiroi at the quarantine centre, when she was bitten pretty violently by some form of bug," said Dunlop.

"She suffered a major reaction but I'm pleased to say with the help of the Japan Racing Association and the vets she has made enormous improvement.

"We werevery concerned at the time but she is very well now. She hasn't missed much and exercised on the track this morning.

"She has been very competitive against strong horses in Europe this year, so I think she has a good chance of winning the race again this year," he added.

Investec Oaks winner Dancing Rain is also set to line up for trainer William Haggas and his wife Maureen said the three-year-old is taking the experience "very well".

"This is her first long-distance travel outside Europe, but she's taking it very well - eating and drinking well on the plane," said Haggas, speaking to japanracing.jp.

"I think this is very good experience for her, and she's learning all the time.

"We cantered her on dirt course today. We'll canter her again on turf course tomorrow, then we'll give her a little blow on Thursday," she added.
