Stratum reaches
notable landmark

GOLDEN Slipper Stakes winner Stratum became the first of this season's Australian-based freshman sires to be represented by a southern hemisphere stakes winner when Crystal Lily won the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield on Tuesday.

The Simon Zahra and Mathew Ellerton-trained filly took the 5f event by an impressive three lengths to become the fourth winner for her sire who stands at Widden Stud for A$33,000 (£18,344/€20,998).

The son of Redoute's Choice, who also set a race record when winning Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes, currently lies in fourth behind Snitzel on the Australian leading first season sires' list thanks to the winners of over A$100,000.

Bred by Contract Racing, Crystal Lily is out of the Snippets mare Crystal Snip and a half-sister to stakes winner Crystal Wit.
