Smooth success for Big Shuffle colt

Smooth Operator stepped up on his last-time-out Listed success at Baden-Baden to win the Group 3 Prix Eclipse on Monday at Chantilly.

Trained by Mario Hofer, Smooth Operator is by the former champion German sire Big Shuffle, who is based at Gestut Auenquelle and now a 24-year-old, and a half-brother to Sugar Baby Love (Second Empire), winner of a Listed race and runner-up Maurice Lacroix-Trophy-Gr2 as a juvenile, and a full-brother to Something Stupid who won a Listed race at Hamburg.

The pair's dam Salzgitter is by Salse and out of the Rainbow Quest mare Anna Of Brunswick, a daughter of Anna Paola, winner of the Preis der Diana-Gr2, and a half-sister to the Group 3 winners Anno Luce and Anna Of Saxony. Anna of Brunswick produced a filly by Lord of England this year.

Runner-up to Smooth Ooperator was Saxford, a gelding by first-season sire Reset.
