Racing Post Chase  (Grade 3) 4yo+

TOM GEORGE's French-bred Nacarat, a son of Smadoun, rewarded his faith in style today when galloping away to win with the Grade 3 Racing Post Chase with ease.

Possessing pace and revealing an ability to get three miles, a trip previously untried by the horse, he made mostly all under AP McCoy before goingclear in the straight to win by nine lengths.

A delighted George said: "It's a pleasure to train horses like him. He's done everyone proud today.

"He's changed enormously and it's taken a while for him tofurnish himself and we've got the hang of him. It's lucky AP likes riding horses for me.

"He won't go to Cheltenham as he doesn't like racing downhill. Aintree is a possibility but I just want to enjoy today."

A Listed-class performer in France, Smadoun (Kaldoun) who is now a 19-year-old, is sire of smart performers on the Flat and over fences. His best runner to date is Chichicastenango, winner of the Group 1 Grand Prix De Paris and the Prix Lupin and now a successful sire himself.

Smadoun's jumpers in Britain are headlined by Nacarat, but Oumeyade is the winner of six races and finished third in this season's Wayward Lad Novices Chase and Good Spirit whose best performance came when second in the Pendil Novices Chase behind Natal in 2007.  Both races are run at Kempton - it seems that Smadoun's progeny have a particular affinity for a speed test over fences around the Sunbury track.

Smadoun stands at Haras Des Sablonnets in France and Francis Maze bred Nacarat out of Gerbora (Art Bleu). She ran 39 times on the Flat and over fences, winning four races, three times on the Flat. She has had four foals, all of which are by Smadoun. One is a yearling and one atwo-year-old but two of them have run with Nacarat being the only winner.
