Slumber is by the Cacique, whose stallion career was hit by fertility issues

Slumber comes too late to aid his sire Cacique

THE Investec Derby Trial success of Slumber will bring mixed feelings for Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, who own the three-year-old but had to retire his sire Cacique last year due to fertility issues.

A brother to Dansili out of the brilliant Hasili, Cacique's first crop,  from which Slumber comes, numbered only 30 and he was not offered as a sire last season.

Out of the Woodman mare Sound Asleep, Slumber is his dam's first UK winner, although she has produced winners inGreece, America, Russia and Sweden.

His second dam is the Grade 1 Hollywood Oaks winner Sleep Easy (by Seattle Slew), herself a three-parts sister to Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Aptitude (by Seattle Slew's recently retired  son AP Indy).

Slumber has a famous fourth dam in Alluvial, who produced Slew O' Gold and Coastal.
