Lagardere blood
shines through

YEARS of hard work by the Aga Khan and the late Jean-Luc Lagardere fittingly combined to brilliant effect at Longchamp on Sunday when Rosanara and Siyouni each justified their tall reputations by winning the Prix Marcel Boussac and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

The Alain de Royer-Dupre-trained pair both hail from families cultivated by Lagardere, whose stock was purchased in its entirety by the Aga Khan in 2005.

Rosanara is the first foal out of Rosawa, a daughter of Linamix who won the Listed Prix de Liancourt and Listed Prix de la Calonne under the care of Andre Fabre.

A sister to Listed winner Rasaman, Rosawa traces to Canadian champion Square Angel, later the ancestress of Swain, Fantastic Light, Key To The Moon, Golden Attraction, Carnival Dancer and recent Ruffian Handicap heroine Swift Temper.

Rosanara is the third Group 1 winner by the Aga Khan's Derby hero Sinndar, who stands at the Aga Khan's Haras  de Bonneval in Normandy for €10,000.

Siyouni is the 12th winner at the top level by Cheveley Park's Pivotal, and is remarkably the first to score as a two-year-old.

Like Rosanara, Siyouni is the first produce of a Listed-winning dam, in this case Sichilla. The daughter of Danehill is a half-sister to five stakes performers including dual champion Slickly, who now stands under the Darley banner at Haras du Logis.

Sichilla has a yearling filly by Medicean and a colt foal by Dalakhani.
