Breeder: Clovelly Farms in the US

TAZEEZ captured the second Pattern race of his career with a game three-quarter length victory over last year's winner Steele Tango in the Darkey Stakes.

Tazeez raced prominently and took the lead one furlong from home, and kept on bravely to see off late challenges from Steele Tango and the third home, last year's St Leger hero Mastery.

Victory for Tazeez provides his dam, Soiree Russe, with an important catalogue update ahead of her date with the auctioneer at Keeneland's November breeding stock sale.

She is catalogued, in foal to Lemon Drop Kid, as hip 276 in Book 1 of the sale on November 8, alongside her filly foal by First Samurai, who goes through the ring one lot later.

They form part of the dispersal of Robin Scully's Clovelly Farms.

Soiree Russe is a winning 13-year-old daughter of Nureyev out of Premio Lydia Tesio runner-up Private View, making her a half-sister to Great Voltigeur Stakes runner-up Ionio.

Tazeez and Ionio are both by Silver Hawk, and are thus closely related.

Tazeez was sold to Shadwell for €200,000 at the 2005 Goffs Million yearling sale. Hamdan Al Maktoum's operation escaped letting the horse slip through their fingers after withdrawing him from the 2007 and 2008 renewals of the Tattersalls Autumn horses in training sale.
