Wild Coco puts Rottgen family back in spotlight

GESTUT Rottgen's homebred Wild Coco took the step up into stakes company in her stride on Saturday when holding off last year's Oaks runner-up Meeznah to land the Listed Newsells Park Stakes at Newmarket.

In the process, the Henry Cecil-trained filly became the fourth stakes winner from the first crop of four-time Group/Grade 1 winner Shirocco. The son of Monsun has made most impact to date on the continent, where he is the sire of Group 2 winners Arrigo (in Germany) and Grand Vent (in France). He stood the past season at Dalham Hall Stud for £10,000.

A half-sister to three winners including the smart hurdler Wendel, Wild Coco was bought back for 60,000gns by her breeder at Book 1 of the 2009 Tattersalls October Sale. She is out of Gestut Rottgen's homebred 1m4f German Group 2 winner Wild Side.

By Sternkoenig, a Group 1-winning son of Kalaglow campaigned by Gestut Rottgen who later sired Derby Italiano winner Kallisto, Wild Side is a half-sister to German St Legerwinner Win For Us (by Surumu) and 7f German Group 3 winner White Rose (by Platini).

Wild Side has a two-year-old filly by Dalakhani named Wilddrossel, a yearling filly by Silvano named Wild Silva and a filly foal by Mount Nelson.
