German freshman sire Electric Beat off the mark

GERMAN first-season sire Electric Beat supplied his first winner on Saturday when his daughter Alpha improved onher debut eighth to take a 6f fillies' maiden at Hoppegarten.

Alpha, trained by Dominik Moser for Gestut Trona, is out of the winning Tannenkonig mare Adela, from the family of Deutsches Derby runner-up Acambaro and German champion older sprinter Abaddjinn.

Electric Beat, a son of Shinko Forest, was a 2,800gns DBS October yearling purchase who developed into the leading German-trained sprinter of his generation, his victories including the Group 3 Grosser Plural-Preis over 6f at Hamburg and the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche over the same distance at Baden-Baden.

He was also not disgraced when 14th of 18 runners, but beaten only around eight lengths, behind Sakhee's Secret in the 2007 July Cup at Newmarket.

Electric Beat stands at Gestut Trona in Germany at a fee of €3,000.

British and Irish breeders may be keeping one eye on his progress at stud, as his grand-dam is a half-sister to the dam of leading miler Paco Boy, who covered his first book of mares at Highclere Stud this year.
