Shamandar - Salisbury - 03.09.09

Shamandar, who was retained for just 3,500gns as a yearling, takes the Listed Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury from Sweet Sonnet (nearside)

Listed success for
Exceed And Excel filly

SHAMANDAR, who was bought as a youngster by owners Bob and Pauline Scott as a companion for a homebred filly, registered her first black-type success on Thursday when running out a three-quarter length winner of the Listed Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury.

The daughter of Exceed And Excel was retained for just 3,500gns by the Scotts at last year's Tattersalls December Sale, and was forced to miss an engagement at this season's breeze ups after suffering a setback.

However, Shamandar's early misfortune has proven to be a blessing in disguise as the Willie Haggas-trained filly has now won over £70,000 for her owners as well as a £10,000 breeze up bonus.

Shamandar is the seventh northern hemisphere stakes winner by the crack Australian sprinter Exceed And Excel and the third juvenile by the stallion to score at stakes level this season following Nideeb and Piccadilly Filly.

Bred in France by Team Hogdala, Shamandar is the third foal out Sensational Mover, a placed daughter of Theatrical and Grade 2 winner Blushing Heiress.

Sensational Mover has a yearling colt by Numerous.
