Kirsten Rausing: a new maiden winner emerged today from her top-class family of Aussie Rules, Last Second, Alborada and Allegretto

Another winner for Rausing's top family

SIR MARK PRESCOTT would not have sent a first-time out runner to Carlisle if he did not fancy the horse's chances and the trainer's confidence was rewarded when Albaspina (Selkirk) duly collected in the 7f Tom Segal Writes For The Weekender Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Sent off the 7/4 favourite, Albaspina was bred by Kirsten Rausing and Sonia Rogers and is from Rausing's premier family - Albaspina is out of Albastrine, a half-sister to Last Second, the dam of Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1) winner Aussie Rules; Alleluia, who is the dam of Group 2 winner Allegretto, and Alouette, the dam of the dual Group 1 winner Alborada.

Another sister, Albanova, recently got a new maiden winner of her own, courtesy of the Galileo filly Albamara, a winner at Kempton at the end of August.

Albaspina holds an entry in the Shadwell Fillies' Mile at Newmarket on September 23, 2011.

Her sire Selkirk stands at Rausing's Lanwades Stud, but has been suffering from reduced fertility over the past two seasons.
