Secret shortens in race
to be leading freshman

WHITSBURY Manor Stud stallion Sakhee's Secret has been shortened into 2/9 on by Stan James to be the leading first-season sire this season by number of winners.

The move came on Wednesday evening after the stallion had sired a brace of winners in Secret Recipe and Stiff Upper Lip to bring his overall tally in Britain and Ireland to 15. His figure is almost twice that of Sixties Icon and New Approach, who are both on eight.

"Sakhee's Secret has shortened to long odds-on 1/4 following another winner at Listowel today via Secret Recipe," said Joseph Burke of Stan James.

"New Approach currently trades at 7/2 second favourite and he is now the only realistic stallion that is capable of challenging the favourite for in the battle to become leading first season sire in our list. All other stallions are 10/1 or bigger.

"Although Sakhee's Secret holds a lead of seven winners over New Approach, the latter's progeny are expected to mop up some of the late season maidens so he could yet pass the favourite but we can't ignore the statistics which currently show Sakhee's Secret sailing for home!"
