Second Million
for Hawk Wing

NOT only did the victory of Lucky General inthe Goffs Million Sprint mark the fourth in the Goffs-sponsored sales race for trainer Richard Hannon but it also marked the second win in as many years for a runner by Hawk Wing.

The victory of the Hannon-trained Minor Vamp in last year's Goffs Fillies' Million propelled Hawk Wing to the head of the 2008 leading second season sires' list, ahead of Oasis Dream and Nayef. Although Oasis Dream is likely to take his revenge on this year's leading third crop sires' list, the €985,000 pot of the Goffs Million Sprint could see Hawk Wing climb into second place.

However, that will mean little to European breeders as the brilliant Lockinge Stakes winner was sold to Korea late last year following five seasons at Coolmore.

Bred by K. Molloy in Ireland, Lucky General commanded €50,000 from Peter Doyle at last year's Goffs Million Sale having been led out unsold at 9,000gns the previous year at the Tattersalls December Sale.

A half-brother to the Listed-placed Dress To Impress, Lucky General is one of three winners out of Dress Code. The winning daughter of Barathea hails from a family Hannon knows well as a half-sister to Rag Top, whom the trainer sent out to win the CL Weld Stakes.

Dress Code's yearling filly by Oratorio is catalogued as lot 563 in this week's Goffs Orby Sale.
