Trade Fair off the mark

TRADE Fair got off the mark on Saturday evening when the gelded Schoolboy Champ sprung a 33/1 surprise in the 5f maiden at Haydock.

It was the first start for the Patrick Morris-trained juvenile, who was bred by Stephen Hillen and Hatta Bloodstock out of the Listed winner Aswhatilldois.

AT €50,000, Schoolboy Champ was the second dearest first crop foal by his sire to sell at auction. However, it was a different story 11 months later when he was sold for only £4,000 to C. O'Donnell at the DBS October Sale.

He is one of 88 first crop foals by dual Group 3 winner Trade Fair. The son of Zafonic, who also ran third in the Dewhurst Stakes, stands at Tweenhills Farm for £3,000.
