Manighar: captured his third Group 1 in six weeks when successful in the BMW at Rosehill on Saturday

MANIGHAR continued his resurgence for Peter Moody in style on Saturday when lifting his third Group 1 within the space of six weeks, the BMW, at the expense of Americain (by Dynaformer). The gelding also won the Australian Cup and Ranvet Stakes earlier this year.

One of 13 Group 1 winners by Jean-Luc Lagardere's former French champion sire Linamix, Manighar was being carried by his dam Mintly Fresh when she formed part of the lock, stock and barrel purchase of  Lagardere's breeding stock by the Aga Khan in 2005.


Mintly Fresh, a daughter of Rubiano, finished second in the Listed Santa Paula Handicap over 6½f at Santa Anita.

Manighar's brother Minatlya won the Group 3 Prix du Royaumont. Mintly Fresh also has a three-year-old filly by Manduro and a two-year-old colt by Dalakhani.

Manighar won six racesincluding the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay when trained in France by Alain de Royer Dupre for the Aga Khan. He was third in the Yorkshire Cup and fifth in the Melbourne Cup last year for Luca Cumani and is now trained in Australia by Peter Moody.

THE Vinery Stud Stakes was Mosheen's third consecutive Group 1 victory for trainer Robert Smerdon and her fourth overall.

One of the highlights of an outstanding season for Fastnet Rock, she is one of nine Group 1 winners sired overall by her sire, a Group 1-winning son of Danehill who shuttles between Coolmore's Irish and Australian bases. He is currently covering in County Tipperary for a private fee.

Mosheen was bred by Bylong Park Thoroughbreds out of the winning Stravinsky mare Sumehra, a half-sister to Hong Kong Mile winner Lucky Owners (by Danehill) and Listed scorer Miss Power Bird. It is the further family of Melbourne Cup hero Might And Power.

Bylong are set to offer a Zabeel half-brother to Mosheen at the upcoming prestigious Inglis Easter yearling sale.

MORE Than Ready's top Australia daughter More Joyous added a sixth Group 1 to her record with victory in this event, which came on the same card that another daughter of the stallion, Samaready, ran third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous is one of11 Group 1 winners by Vinery's top Kentucky shuttler More Than Ready. Other by the sire include Golden Slipper Stakes scorers Sebring and Phelan Ready, and last year's AmericanGrade 1-winning filly Buster's Ready. The stallion was also represented earlier this year by Gimmethegreenlight, winner of the Group 1 Queen's Plate at Kenilworth in South Africa.

The son of Southern Halo, who won the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes, stood the past southern hemisphere season at Vinery in Australia for A$99,000.

Inbred 3x3 to Halo, More Joyous is the best foal out of Sunday Joy, who won the 2003 Group 1 AJC Oaks for Waterhouse. She is a half-sister to another top Waterhouse - Strawberry Hill runner in multiple Group 1 heroine Tuesday Joy.


The Daily Telegraph George Ryder Stakes (Group 1), 3yo+, 7 1/2 f

METAL BENDER (6 g Danasinga - Jacqwin by Bluebird)

Bred by Waikato Stud 2001 Ltd in New Zealand

METAL Bender is one of four Group 1 winners by Danasinga, who was one of the earliest Australian-sired Group 1 winners sired by Danehill. The 21-year-old stands at Baerami Thoroughbreds in New South Wales for A$8,800.

Bred on the same Bluebird cross as Mirjulisa Lass, another Group 1 winner by Danasinga, Metal Bender is a half-brother to the Listed-placed Southern Venture and out of a winning half-sister to Australian Group 1 winner and sire Keeper, who is also by Danehill.
