Kamsin has first and only foal of 2011 on ground

KAMSIN, the 2008 German Derby winner, has had his first and only foal of this year born.

The six-year-old officially entered stud alongside his sire Samum at Gestut Karlshof this year, but in 2010 he covered three mares with one getting in foal.

That pregnant mare, Arpista, produced a colt - a half-brother to Group 3 Prix Gontaut-Biron runner-up Adelar - on Tuesday.

This year, six of the seven mares Kamsin has covered have been scanned in foal. They include Bandeira, whose daughter by Samum, Baila Me, won the Group 1 Preis von Europa before being sold to Godolphin, for whom she has won successive renewals of the Listed Eden Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield.

Kamsin established himself as the leading German-trained three-year-old of 2008 with victories in three Group 1 races - the Deutsches Derby, Rheinland-Pokal and Grosser Preis von Baden.

In the Grosser Preis von Baden he sluiced home on soft ground to beat a high-class field that included Adlerflug, It's Gino and Lucarno.

At four, the Peter Schiergen-trained horse landed the Group 2 Gerling-Preis.

Kamsin is out of Group 3 winner Kapitol and hails from the important German 'K' family of stakes winners Kaiserstadt, Klassiker and Kamsin's great-grandsire, Konigsstuhl.
