IRISH 1,000 Guineas winner Samitar won her first start for her new US trainer to give her sire Rock Of Gibraltar a second Gr 1 success in successive weekends.

The Coolmore sire is also responsible for Haydock Sprint Cup winner Society Rock.

Having her fourth run for owner Martin Schwartz, and first for trainer Chad Brown, Samitar was an odds-on favourite when winning the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes over 9 furlongs at Belmont Park.

Bred by Norman Court Stud and formerly trained by Mick Channon, Samitar was a 39,000gns purchase by Gill Richardson at Book 1 of the 2010 Tattersalls October sales.

She is a half-sister to Group 3 Albany Stakes winner Nijoom Dubai, also bred by Norman Court, trained by Channon and purchased by Richardson, this time for 19,000gns at Tattersalls in 2006.

Their third dam, Optimistic Lass won the Nassau and Musidora Stakes and produced champion European three-year-old filly Golden Opinion, whose victories included the Coronation Stakes.
