Samantha Miss odds-on to fail to reach reserve

SPORTINGBET Australia has issued odds on the price that champion filly Samantha Miss will fetch when she goes through the ring on the final day of the Inglis Easter broodmare sale tomorrow.

The firm goes 1-2 that the daughter of Redoute's Choice fails to reach her reserve and goes unsold, around 13-8 that she is sold for A$3.5 million (£1,683,644 / €1,911,560) or more, and 9-2 that she sells for less than that figure.

Explaining how the market was formed, Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said: "It would seem unlikely that her owner Ron Croghan would accept anything less for her, so a sale under A$3.5 million is the outsider.

"Two years ago she would have crashed through A$3.5 million easily, but the market is very soft which is why no sale remains favourite."

Widden Stud will consign Samantha Miss, a triple Group 1-winning three-year-old from the family of Group 2 winners Pravda and Cronus.

Sullivan predicted that the filly's age will be in her favour. "There is plenty to attract buyers to her," he said, "as apart from her outstanding breeding and potential at stud, she is still very much a racing prospect."
