TEDDY'S PROMISE (3 f Salt Lake - Braids And Beads by Capote)
Bred by Ted and Judy Nichols in USA
THE final Group or Grade 1 event of the year, the La Brea Stakes, provided a shock result as 16-1 outsider Teddy's Promise ran out the 2¼- length winner.
In the process, the Californian-bred filly became the fifth NorthAmerican Grade 1 winner by the late Salt Lake, who was put down at the age of 21 in July 2010.
Salt Lake, a son of Deputy Minister, enjoyed his finest moment on the track for D. Wayne Lukas when successful in the 1991 Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga. Other highlights of his two-season career included victories in the (then) Grade 2 King's Bishop Stakes and Grade 2 Cowdin Stakes.
Salt Lake retired to stud in 1993 at Walmac Farm in Kentucky, where he spent 13 seasons before transferring to Golden Eagle Farm in California. Among his other notable performers are Canadian champion Fantasy Lake and Argentine champion Salt Champ as well as juvenile Grade 1 winner Ordway.
Campaigned by breeders Ted and Judy Nichols, Teddy's Promise is one of two winners from as many starters out of Braids And Beads. The placed daughter of Capote is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner and formerGolden Eagle resident General Meeting and from the family of Carson City.
Braids And Beads has a yearling colt by Stormin Fever named Blazing Fever.
