Russian Rhythm breaks duck as a broodmare

OUTSTANDING miler Russian Rhythm was represented by her first winner on Friday when her second foal, Safina, comfortably broke her duck in the 7f fillies' maiden at Chester.

Safina placed third on her debut at Newmarket last October and ran fourth behind Music Show in the Nell Gwyn Stakes on her three-year-old debut last month. She holds an entry in Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Her year-older sister, Barynya, finished placed on all three of her starts last year.

Like Russian Rhythm, both fillies are owned and were bred by Cheveley Park Stud, and are by the operation's flagship stallion, Pivotal.

In a stellar racing career, Russian Rhythm won the Lowther Stakes and finished runner-up in the Cheveley Park Stakes at two, won the 1,000 Guineas Stakes, Coronation Stakes and Nassau Stakes at three and beat the boys to land the Lockinge Stakes at four.

Russian Rhythm, a daughter of Kingmambo, has a two-year-old filly, also by Pivotal, called Zykina, and produced her first colt, by Dansili, on January 21. She is set to visit Oasis Dream this year.
